Eight months after its launch, the Erasmus+ OPTIMO project continues its progress. Its objective: to enrich the practices of trainers who teach the language of the host country to young people and adults with a migrant background, focusing on the development of effective and inclusive communication skills to support the integration of their learners.
A solid base: documentary research
The first result of the project, the documentary research, constitutes an indispensable basis for the next stages of the project. Each partner has written two articles on key topics related to communication skills:
- Language as an integrating element
- Body language and non-verbal communication
- Active listening, trust and how to encourage the learner
- Learners with specific language disorders (SLDs)
- Diversifying teaching methods and preparing for oral exams
- Humor in communication and colloquial language
- Gain autonomy in learning a language
- Artificial intelligence in conversation classes
The articles are now available in English on the project website and will then be published on the EPALE platform. The first article “How to gain autonomy in the learning process?” is available on the EPALE platform, you can access it by clicking here.
To the 100 exercises
At the same time, the partners are pursuing another important objective: publish 100 exercises for the teaching of communication skills.
Have any posts already been posted? on the project's Instagram accounts, as well as on the toolkit, which are also available on the project website. The exercises are available in the following languages:
🇬🇧 English -@Blablaclass
🇫🇮 Finnish - @puhuttavaa
🇦🇹 German - @sprachesagtalles
🇫🇷 French - @Opti .words
🇪🇸 Spanish - @habla .optimo
These engaging and motivating exercises for learners and trainers are collected and/or developed by the partners and can be directly applicable in class.
Highlight in May: Business trip to Finland
In May, the partners met in Turku (Finland) for two major project events:
- One transnational project meeting
The project partners raised questions about the progress of the project, priorities and future tasks.
- A peer training session
Who counted the participation of more than 30 teachers from Finland, Spain and France. The purpose of this event was to develop and strengthen skills, to test the resources created and collected so far and to discuss practices and methods of teaching communication skills.
Next steps
The next steps of the project focus on the creation of 8 Masterclasses, developed based on the themes addressed in the articles. The Masterclasses will last an hour and a half and will consist of videos, exercises and other resources to allow teachers to deepen each theme and discover concrete teaching tools.
